In the 80s, my father rented a slip from Bill at his Marina in Annapolis and the two quickly became good friends. Quite often they would take off independently for weekend sails only to end up at a rendevous at some small cove to spend the evening sharing a drink and telling increasingly ridiculous stories. It was great fun as a kid to be there and experience these two good friends just spending time together. Those were great summers on the Bay.
I'll always remember Captain Bill fondly. I hope he's enjoying a nice sail on Paramour.

To the ship's company, Man the rails, Uncover, Glennon departing! Without a doubt, we should be uncovering for Admiral Magee. Men like William Magee make our Navy the best in the world and every sailor under his command was brought to their full potential and stood with pride for being under his command. My last year in the Navy was spent on Independent Duty as a Corpsman with the Riverine forces, I consider myself to be a hardened man but I am not ashamed to say, that I had tears in my eyes when I learned of our Captains passing.
My respect to the members of the Captain's family.
Sincerely
Paul C. Daiute
