Obituary of Joseph H Miller

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Longtime Amityville resident, Joseph H. Miller, 81, passed away on Tuesday, March 10th. Joe was born in Woodside, NY, in 1938 to Henry and Anne (nee Halliday) Miller. Joe married the love of his life, Adrienne, in 1972, and they moved to Amityville in 1975. Joe is predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Adrienne. He is survived by his son, Michael, and his three children, Casey, Brady, and Lyla, as well as his daughter, Valerie Miller, and her husband, Charles Riscavage, of Philadelphia. Joe was an avid NY sports fan (NY Giants, Yankees, and NY Rangers), pinochle player, jazz enthusiast, and active member of the VFW in Massapequa Park. For the past several years, he was often spotted many afternoons selling poppies in front of the local grocery store, greeting friends and neighbors and raising money for the Veterans. Joe was a devoted NY Giants season ticket holder for nearly 50 years, in good times and tough seasons. He proudly went to the Super Bowl in Pasadena in 1987 to cheer on his favorite boys in blue. Joe and three buddies played pinochle once a week for over 30 years, finally closing down the game when 2 of his teammates retired to Florida. Joe retired from his 45-year career as a trader on the NYSE in 2001, and he and Adrienne enjoyed many years of traveling around the world in their golden years, taking cruises through the Panama Canal, to Alaska, Hawaii, and dozens of other locations. Once the grandkids were born, he became more of a homebody, spending as much time as he could with his three grandchildren, Casey, Brady, and Lyla. His nickname of “touchdown Grandpa” was given to him after he taught the three children the basics of football, ensuring they too became avid NY Giants fans. Always a friendly face and quick to make everyone laugh, Joe will be missed by the entire Amityville community and his extended network, but his legacy will endure. The family will receive friends Saturday, March 14th and Sunday, March 15th from 2-4:30 & 7-9:00 pm at the funeral home. Wake prayers will conducted Sunday evening at 7:30 pm by Deacon Richard Ferri. The Massapequa VFW will conduct services at 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, March 16th at 9:30 am in St, Martin of Tours RC Church, Amityville. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Calverton National Cemetery.
